A community boathouse at Pier 40 where volunteers build and row traditional wooden gigs on the Hudson. High schoolers can join a free Friday youth rowing program with no experience needed, and families can join free public rows.

No. Village Community Boathouse Youth Rowing is outdoors, so plan for weather, sunscreen and water.
Huge rooftop, courtyard and indoor turf fields at Pier 40 used by many downtown youth leagues for soccer, baseball, football, rugby and lacrosse. When no permits are scheduled, families can use the outdoor fields for informal play.
A Manhattan youth soccer academy training at Pier 40 and parks around downtown and the West Side, with a player development program for ages 4-6 and travel teams for older kids. It also runs holiday and summer camps and a teen coaching apprenticeship.
A nonprofit downtown soccer club founded in 1982 serving about 5,000 players a year, from classes for 3 year olds to recreation leagues, futsal, camps and a competitive academy. Kids learn in a supportive environment on Lower Manhattan fields.
A legendary fenced-in streetball court above the West 4th Street subway station in Greenwich Village, famous for fast, physical games and summer tournaments. Kids can watch high-level pickup or shoot around during open times.
Three regulation sand volleyball courts on Pier 25 in Tribeca with night lighting and Statue of Liberty views. Manhattan Youth runs youth and adult leagues and community play on the courts.
A free concrete skatepark on Pier 62 near Chelsea Piers, with a beginner 'Ollie Zone' featuring a small quarter pipe, wedge and start box. Skateboarders and rollerbladers must wear helmets.
