Central Park's public tennis center has 26 clay courts and 4 hard courts, with a pro shop and locker rooms. Kids can take Tiny Tots classes, junior development groups, private lessons and summer camp during the outdoor season.
Children start taekwondo in the Tiny Dino and Little Dino classes for ages 3-6, then move into the Junior program for ages 6-12. Kids 13 and up train in the teen and adult classes, and kickboxing is also offered.
Kids and teens learn krav maga self-defense in classes kept separate from the adult program. There is also a Self-Defense Before College program aimed at teenage girls.
The Upper West Side branch of HTD Boxing runs youth boxing classes for kids roughly 8 to 16. Young boxers learn technique in group classes, with youth class packages sold through the gym.
A Taekwondo studio on the Upper West Side led by Master An, where children and beginners train in traditional forms and technique. Classes aim to build focus, confidence, fitness and discipline in a small community setting.
Children ages 6-12 can take kids karate and kids Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes, and those 8 and up can add a wrestling supplement. The school teaches students from age 3 through adults and also runs summer and school-vacation camps.
