The outdoor memorial pools are free to visit, and the underground museum tells the story of September 11 through artifacts and personal accounts. The museum offers youth and family tours and guidance for talking with children; content is best suited to older kids.

A Little Italy museum telling the story of Italian immigrants in New York through artifacts, photographs and interactive exhibits in its newly opened Mulberry Street home. Older kids can connect family and neighborhood history to what they see on the surrounding streets.
A slime-themed play space where kids squish through hundreds of gallons of slime, walk across a slime lake and can volunteer to get slimed under a waterfall. The DIY bar lets them mix a custom slime to take home.
A free SoHo museum devoted entirely to drawing, from historic sketches to contemporary works and comics. Its focused exhibitions are a manageable art outing for kids who love to draw.
Kids board the 1885 tall ship Wavertree and the lightship Ambrose, then explore maritime galleries and a working 19th-century letterpress print shop. Hands-on family stations explain life in the old port.
